Bring salted water to a boil, add the pasta and cool al dente. Reserve 1.5 cups of the pasta water. Add olive oil to a pan over medium heat. Add the garlic and saute for 1 minute. Add a splash of the reserved pasta water if the garlic begins to brown. Add the pasta, peas, and browned sausage. Add the rest of the pasta water, lemon zest and juice. Mix well and heat thoroughly for about 5 minutes. Add the Parmesan cheese and salt and pepper to taste. Mix well and remove the pan from the heat. Toss in a large handful of basil and serve immediately.
