Pull off the Perfect Fall Picnic
Outdoor activities get all the glory during the summer, but I prefer taking in mother nature during the peak of fall! I love being outside this time of year. A picnic is one of my favorite ways to enjoy the changing colors and crisp air! And I have just the tips to help you pull off the perfect fall picnic!
The perfect picnic starts with a good location and good company! Luckily, I didn’t have to look far for either. Recently Lukas was enjoying time with Papa and Grandma, so I snagged my hubby (and pup) for a day-date at the park. Remi was especially excited for this 🙂 We have a great park on the lake near our home and it’s the perfect location to take in the fall color. If you don’t have a park nearby, never underestimate your backyard. It could be the great place for a picnic, too! This was literally a spur of the moment picnic. I threw things together in minutes, and it was so fun!
Keep It Simple and Tasty
There is no room for fuss when you have a picnic. It should be effortless and simple. I had just minutes to pull the picnic items together so I simply scanned my house and threw some things in a picnic basket. I had a great twine basket that isn’t necessarily a picnic basket but served as one. I threw in a pillow and blanket I had near our fireplace and then headed to the kitchen.
A picnic requires some tasty treats but don’t overdo it. I just packed a few of my favorite Trader Joe’s staples (mushroom brie, salame, water crackers, apples, and a cider brute). The items pictured below are my favorite Trader Joe’s goodies right now. I make sure I always have these in the house, in case I have last minute guests or I need quick picnic items 🙂
That cider and brie, BTW, are an amazing combo! Oh and Trader Joe’s has a great deal on Honey Crisp apples! An entire bag for only $5.99!
Remember the Picnic Staples
Along with something to nibble and sip on, you always need to pack a few staples such as cups, napkins and silverware. Along with the cheese and crackers, I brought some leftover chili. Chili is a great thing to bring on a picnic. You can pack it in a thermos and it’s the perfect meal on a crisp fall day! Check out my White Chicken Chili recipe! We didn’t end up diving into the chili though, as we got so full on the cheese – OMG that cheese is amazing!
I hope you’re able to get out and enjoy this beautiful fall weather! There’s only a couple more weeks of peak season left. Enjoy! Cheers! xoxo
