Our #PureMichigan summer started with a trip to Ma Our #PureMichigan summer started with a trip to Mackinaw Island and brunch inside the @grandhotelmichigan was the highlight! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was magical and the company was lovely. I’ve been wanting to go to the island for a couple summers now and James surprised me with a birthday trip there. It was a great weekend and I can’t wait to go back! Stay tuned for the next video and more island adventures!

Come along with us on our @sheplersferry trip to M Come along with us on our @sheplersferry trip to Mackinaw Island! This was such a fun weekend and Lukas loved the ferry ride over to the island. We stayed at an @airbnb in St.Ignace. @sheplersferry was 5 mins from our beachside rental - perfect for an easy trip over to the island! I hadn’t been to the island since I was a kid and it was just as magical as I remember! I loved seeing Lukas soak in all the magic! Stay tuned for the next video when I take you inside the @grandhotelmichigan for our brunch experience!😍😍😍

Tastes like summer 🌞😎 Gimme all the grilled Tastes like summer 🌞😎

Gimme all the grilled veggies this summer!!

Add them to sandwiches, salads, rice bowls, enjoy as a snack with some dip. So good!

Super simple marinade for veggies before they hit the grill…

Dijon mustard (about a tablespoon), lemon juice, lemon zest, oregano, salt and pepper.

Just toss the marinade ingredients with whatever veggies you’d like and throw on a grill.

Summer grilling season is in full swing at our hou Summer grilling season is in full swing at our house! I love our evenings on the deck this time of the year. One of our favorite summer meals is grilled chicken on homemade pita with all the herbs, pickled onions and a drizzle of my version of fouttoush dressing (I just add Dijon to mine). This meal seems like it has a lot of elements to it (and it does) but it comes together easily, can be made ahead of time, and uses all those great summer herbs and ingredients! Let me know if you serve up this meal on your deck this summer!

Ingredients:

2tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 shallots, thinly sliced
6-8 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon crushed Calabrian chili
1tablespoon dried oregano
1 bay leaves
1.5 cups cherry tomatoes
1 jar of tomato puree
1 cup clam juice, bottled
1 1⁄2cups dry white wine
2 baby carrots
2lbs manila clams, scrubbed ( can also used 2 cans of canned clams-high quality)
2 tablespoons of capers
1 large handful of basil
1 large handful of parsley, chopped
1 lemon (zest and juice)
2tablespoons unsalted butter
salt, to taste
1lb fresh pasta linguini (or store bought)
Directions:
*Heat the oil in a very large pot over medium heat. Add the onion and saute for 4 minutes. Add the garlic, oregano, and Calabrian chilis. Saute for another 2 minutes, be sure not to burn the garlic.
*Add the tomatoes with their juice, clam juice, and wine. Bring to a boil over high heat. Decrease the heat to medium and add the tomato puree. Mix well before adding in the bay leafs and a carrot to help reduce acidity. Simmer on low uncovered for about 30 minutes
*Add the clams, capers (and shrimp if you want) lemon juice and zest. Cover, and simmer over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, just until the clams open (discard any clams that don’t open), about 8 minutes. Add the cooked pasta and mix well. Remove the pot from heat. Stir the parsley and butter into the pot. Season with salt and pepper.
*Serve with more fresh basil.
