How to Build an Epic Cheese Board
It’s not a party without a cheese board. Period. Actually it’s not a date night without a cheese board. My husband would say otherwise. That’s neither here nor there – haha. I LOVE creating cheese boards! So, naturally I have to write about How To Build an Epic Cheese Board. I’m surprised it has taken me this long! The possibilities are endless! And there is no better combination than cheese and bread. Right?
I make a cheese board for nearly every holiday and they always go over so well. I try to pull colors into the board that are related to the holiday, too. And it’s surprisingly it’s easy to do. How cute is this Candy Themed Valentine’s Day Cheese Board?
There is of course more candy than cheese on this board, but last I checked that’s not a crime??? I think that’s what makes cheese boards so great – there are NO RULES! But there are some things I think make them extra tasty and appealing.
So, lets talk about How to Build an Epic Cheese Board. The essentials to any cheese board are cheese (of coarse), meat, crackers, bread, and fruit. Lets start with the cheese – my favorite! I always add at least two different types of cheese to my boards. I think 4-5 is even better!
Brie is a must because it’s my favorite, but some other great options are Manchego, Goat Cheese topped with jam, or a hard cheese such as Fontina. Trader Joe’s and Aldi are great places to shop for cheese. They have great prices and a great variety – many are packaged in small amounts so you can really stock up on several different kinds.
I especially love the Triple Cream Brie, Manchego, and Creamy Toscana Cheese soaked in Syrah at Trader Joe’s.
Aldi has some really adorable cheese options right now. They have the cutest line of 80’s song themed cheese. I just bought the most adorable goat cheese medallions called “Wake Me Up Before You Goat Goat”. How awesome is that?! Oh and the “Pour Some Gouda On Me” is great, too! I used it on a Panini recently.
If you’re doing a traditional cheese board (not candy themed – haha) then I think olives and a dipping oil are great additions! Cheese stuffed olives are even better – obviously! I recently found some super tasty cheese stuffed mini-peppers in a jar! For the oil, I usually just combine olive oil and some dried herbs for the dipping oil. You could even do this with a truffle infused oil for a real crowd-pleaser. And a good baguette is key!
Fruit, veggies, and nuts are also great options on your cheese board. Not only do they add great color, but they give people some healthier alternatives, too. As far as meat goes, I love to add a couple different types of meat, too. I love a good peppered salami. Oh, and Trader Joe’s has a delicious, cost friendly red wine salami! Along with other great options!
If you’re making a cheese board for a really large crowd, Costco is likely your most cost effective place! They have reasonably priced large bricks of brie, cheddar, goat, and other cheeses . However, I like Trader Joe’s and Aldi for the smaller portions which allows me to get more variety. Check out this post for some more great Party Food Options for Trader Joe’s.
I hope you enjoyed this post – I think it was my favorite one to work on! Are you shocked?! Let me know what you think in the comments section below, or if you’d like me to create an Epic Cheese Board for your next party, let me know! I’d love to do that for you! Cheers! xoxo
