A Cute DIY Toddler Halloween Costume Idea
Halloween is ONLY two weeks away and I have the cutest DIY toddler Halloween costume idea for you. We are going all out on Lukas’s Halloween costume this year! It has been ready for a couple weeks now, so I thought I’d share it with you guys in case you’re still looking for ideas. It does take a little planning and effort, but it’s so worth it!
I can’t take any credit for costume – it’s all James. With very little help from me, he made a mini version of the Mutt Cutts Van that Loyd drove in Dumb and Dumber. Lukas loves “woofs woofs”, so this is perfect for him! In fact, we had to hide the “Shaggin Wagon” because every time he sees it in the garage he screams until we let him ride it.
We can’t wait for him to take this buggy around the neighborhood on Halloween. The Little Tikes Cozy Coupe is basically just covered in shag carpet purchased from HomeDepot. James used a nail gun to keep the carpet on the car. He also used liquid nail (like a glue) for the legs. To get the shape of the legs, he cut the shape out on cardboard, used liquid nail to adhere the carpet to the cardboard, and a nail gun to adhere the completed cutout to the car.
The tongue and and nose are made out of felt fabric we bought from Michael’s. To help get the shape of the nose, James used the corner of a milk jug and wrapped the black felt around it. James again used liquid nail to adhere the felt to the shag carpet. We also had the door “Mutt Cutts” sign made at Michaels.
The orange tuxedo was pretty easy to find. You can purchase it HERE. The tuxedo is actually 20% off right now and can likely arrive in time for Halloween.Luckily we had black dress shoes for him already and they went perfectly with the tuxedo. You can use any type of shoes though.
The entire costume costs less than $50 to make. We got lucky and found a cozy coupe that someone was throwing away. It was in rough shape, but a good powerwash cleaned it right up. And it was getting covered with carpet anyways.
Adorable and so creative! You nailed it!
Hi Autumn, I know you posted this 2 years ago so there’s a chance you won’t see this question – but do you remember how large the shag rug you purchased from Home Depot was? I’m doing this same costume this year with my toddler and can’t figure out how much material I need to cover a Cozy coupe. Thank you!
