Turkey Bolognese

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. ground turkey
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 5 cloves of garlic
  • 8 oz white button mushrooms
  • 15 oz can of tomato sauce
  • 15 oz can of crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil chopped
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Directions:

In a medium sized pot over medium heat, heat the olive oil. Add the onion and cook until they’re translucent, about 5 minutes. Then add the garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes.  Add the wine and cook for about 5 minutes. Add the mushrooms, parsley, oregano, and basil. Saute until the mushrooms are tender, about 3 minutes. Add the ground turkey and cook until the turkey is no longer pink. Add the tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, and butter. Bring the sauce to a simmer and reduce heat to low. Let it simmer for at least 30 minutes. Add the salt and pepper to taste at the end.
